Foreword
By Chris Wilson

When Kate Nokes originally asked to do a photography project on the Plantation some time ago I agreed with enthusiasm.

So much history is lost and so many records are mislaid due to lack of interest, lack of motivation and sometimes lack of storage space; not to miss the destructive effects of our climate here at Kilifi.

There have been many times when I have thought “I wish we had kept a record or picture of that.” Kate has produced a wonderful pictorial record of the Plantation and it’s day to day workings.

It has given the staff some additional sense of belonging and it will stay as a record for the future as the Plantation changes more and more rapidly under today’s development pressures.

As the current “trustee” of this wonderful property I am very happy and grateful that this record has been made and that future generations will have something to look at which will allow them to know what went on in earlier times.
